Our long term relationships and shared program objectives provide a means to collaborate and improve the pre-planning, planning, engineering, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance processes. MJE’s early involvement and timely incorporation of our construction experts into their projects reduces project cost, shortens schedules, improves quality and safety, and enhances the management of risk.

As an added value to our customers, MJE established a Program Management Organization that acts as an extension of our customer’s staff to develop processes, procedures, and systems in order to deliver the project on schedule and within budget. Portfolio Management Alliance (Transmission & Substation)

M. J. Electric’s alliance relationship with ITC began in 2004. Since that time MJE has been responsible for 34.5 kV to 345 kV substation and transmission line construction for ITC in Lower Michigan, Iowa, and Southern Minnesota. Innovative construction methods, including energized work, are used to enhance system reliability. Projects focus on continuous improvement with best practices being implemented through constructability reviews, early project involvement/planning, and project execution. Continuous monitoring of value-added opportunities is performed in order to track the benefits achieved through collaboration. Throughout this Alliance, we have worked closely with ITC administration to provide accurate accounting, scheduling, and project management information.

American Transmission Company

Northern Portfolio Alliance (Transmission & Substation)

MJE has a long and close working relationship with ATC, most recently under a Transmission & Substation Alliance which began in 2006. M. J. Electric is responsible for construction management, project management, management of owner furnished equipment, budgeting, administration, and construction of transmission and substation projects for ATC in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Project types include system improvements, public improvements, summer critical upgrades, emergency and storm response, and maintenance. Innovative construction methods, including energized work, are used to enhance system reliability.

MJE worked with ATC project management and administration to establish accurate accounting, scheduling and project management reporting.

Commonwealth Edison

Contractor of Choice (Transmission, Substation, Distribution, and Cell Towers)

Multi-year contract for total utility system coverage: Responsible for construction management, project management, management and scheduling of owner-furnished equipment, budgeting, administration and construction of substation, overhead distribution and transmission work across ComEd’s entire service territory. The distribution work scope includes overhead, conventional underground, and URD work. Specific distribution work includes storm hardening, Hendrix cable installation, distribution automation including switch installations and radio system commissioning, pole replacements, overhead to underground conversions, and 4-12 kV conversions.

Eversource Energy

(Northeast Utilities) – Master Services Agreement

MJE furnished overhead line services to support the distribution work in Connecticut and Massachusetts from 2005-2015. The scope of work included various types of overhead distribution including fibertech make ready, pole replacements, transformer replacements, re-conductor projects, system upgrades and conversions, right-of-way projects, general dock work, and storm restoration.

Another agreement covered general substation work throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts providing maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and new installations. The scope of work included DFR projects, breaker replacements, switch replacements, capacitor bank installations and replacements, and animal guard installations.

National Grid

Transmission Infrastructure Services

National Grid retained New Energy Alliance – a joint venture between M. J. Electric and Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. – to provide engineering, program management, and construction services for National’s Grid’s transmission system throughout New England. M. J. Electric provided the transmission construction services including installation of new transmission lines and reconductoring and repair of existing transmission infrastructure. Under the five-year contract (2009-2013), the scope included work on high voltage overhead lines, underground electric cables and substation development and construction. National Grid owns more than 8,600 miles of electricity transmission lines and approximately 1,000 substations across New England and upstate New York.

PPL

COC Transmission Alliance

M. J. Electric has had an ongoing COC relationship with PPL since 2012. Since that time MJE has been responsible for 69 kV to 500 kV transmission line construction and maintenance in Southeastern and Central Pennsylvania. The multi-year contract is for total utility system coverage for transmission-related projects including large capital projects, maintenance crews, and program work. The transmission construction services entail installation of new transmission lines and reconductoring and repair of existing transmission infrastructure. Although our COC is based upon transmission line construction, we have performed some substation construction and energized insulator cleaning projects. Innovative construction methods, including energized work, are used to enhance system reliability in many of the services we provide.

  • Maintenance work for structure, arm, and insulator replacements from 69 kV – 500 kV and NERC work
  • Line rebuilds from 69 kV – 230 kV and replacement of OPGW on 69 kV – 138 kV lines
  • Basic program work including:
    • – Cellon pole replacements (69 kV and 138 kV)
    • – MOAB switch replacements, retrofits, and installations
    • – LAs (69 kV and 138 kV)
    • – Shunt installations
    • – Insulator replacements
