Pulp & Paper Projects

New Construction

J2 Expansion - New Tissue Machine Addition - Jenks, OK

Kimberly-Clark Corporation - Jenks, OK

M. J. Electric performed multiple projects at the site as follows:

  • Power Distribution and Building Lighting

Installation of the power distribution package and 800 light fixtures for an addition to house a new tissue machine. MJE supplied the project management expertise, and OESCO, a local electrical contractor, supplied the craft labor.

  • J2 Expansion - Tissue Machine Process Instruments and Controls

    M. J. Electric and Process Controls and Instrumentation installed the process instruments and controls for a new tissue machine and converting facility with major modifications and additions to the stock prep area.  The project included installation of new PLC's and control systems for machine control and all process instrumentation, including calibration and pneumatic tubing.

  • New Tissue Machine Electrical & Instrumentation

Installation of the electrical and instrumentation packages for the new Greenfield Tissue Machine and related roll handling equipment, control rooms, and offices in addition to modernization of existing stock prep facilities.  The installation included new 15 kV and 4160 V distribution systems, all new drives, machine controls, complete distributed control system and pneumatic instrumentation, mill wide communications including telephone, data highway, and fiber optic cabling, heat trace installation, and all building services.

    Completed in 2001

Pulp Mill Modernization Project - Lime Kiln, Pulp Dryer, & Bleach Plant - Cloquet, MN

SAPPI Fine Papers, N.A. - Cloquet, MN

The project included the installation of building services (lighting, grounding, welding outlets, etc.), 15 kV switchgear, 5 kV and 15 kV substations, cable tray, cables, and wiring for process equipment in the lime kiln, pulp dryer, and bleach plant areas.

Process Controls and Instrumentation also installed the instrumentation, the pneumatic tubing, and instrument calibration for the entire site, which included the bleach plant, pulp dryer, lime kiln, O2 delignification, wood room, evaporators, and digesters.

    Completed in 2000

    Rebuilds

No. 4 Tissue Machine Rebuild - Everett, WA

    Kimberly-Clark Corporation - Everett, WA

This project involved electrical and instrumentation construction for the rebuild, including the demolition and relocation of old electrical equipment and installation of new wire, cable, lighting, substation, instrumentation, and tubing. We also performed testing, cleaning and checkout of all systems.

    M. J. Electric worked for SW&B Construction Company of Auburn, Maine.

    Completed in 2002

No. 1 Paper Machine Modernization Project- Alsip, IL

Madison Paper Company - Alsip, IL

The No. 1 Paper Machine Modernization Project transformed the existing newsprint machine at Madison Paper Company into a modern online lightweight coated (LWC) machine with online calendering, the first of its kind in the North American market. These upgrades enable them to use recycled newspaper to produce on demand either newsprint or coated paper.

    M. J. Electric began the rebuild project in March 2001 and completed it one year later in March 2002. The project involved the installation of all the electrical and process controls systems for a new deinking system and stock prep system. MJE installed a new 15 kV power distribution system, associated MCCs, AC drive systems, and a new Metso (Valmet) Distributed Control System (DCS) System. A new Voith coater, calender, reel, and a Metso winder and roll wrap system were also installed.

During the project's outage from October 2001 through January 2002, MJE worked around the clock shifts with manpower peaking at 300 electricians in December. MJE electricians installed 1,300,000 feet of cable during the outage alone.

    Completed in 2002

C12 Paper Machine Rebuild and Capsule Plant- Chillicothe, OH

    MeadWestvaco - Chillicothe, OH

The rebuild modernized the press section with new drives and instrumentation and added new coating capability to the machine. The project was completed in phases to taking advantage of monthly machine shutdowns for maintenance and to allow engineering to be finalized. The C12 Paper Machine makes carbonless paper, and the associated capsule plant provides the capsules (carbonless coating) for the paper.

    Completed in 2001
