Kossuth – Ledyard Line & Foundations

Iowa | 2018

Transmission – MJ Drilling

A combination of new construction for a 345 kV transmission line and a rebuild of an existing 69 kV line to tie into the new line. The existing portion of the 24-mile line was converted to double-circuit 345/69 kV. In addition, crews installed one shield wire and OPGW with the static wire containing fiber for communication between substations. The steel monopole structures were mounted on 125 drilled pier foundations. This project is part of the Minnesota-Iowa 345 kV Transmission Project that is designed to improve electric reliability, enable more electric generating sources to connect to customers, and meet the region’s growing energy demands. This project is part of the MISO MVP 3 project.
